The Most Reverend, Lord Archbishop Justin Portal Welby, the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury and the most senior Bishop in the Church of England is in Uganda.


Lord Archbishop Justin Portal Welby will officiate at the consecration and enthronement of Bishop Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda on Sunday, 1st March, 2020.


Accompanied by the outgoing Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Stanley Ntagali,  Archbishop Welby was welcomed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday, 28th February, 2020 at State house, Entebbe.


President Museveni thanked Archbishop Welby for responding positively to his invitation to officiate at the enthronement of Bishop Kaziimba Mugalu, the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. 


“I would like to thank His Grace for responding positively to my invitation to visit Uganda and officiate at the consecration and enthronement of Bishop Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.” President Museveni said in his Facebook post on Friday evening.


Bishop Kaziimba Mugalu, will be enthroned on Sunday as the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.
President Yoweri  Museveni is expected to be the chief guest as thousands witness the function.


Archbishop Foley Thomas Beach from the Anglican Church of North America is expected to be the guest preacher. Other Archbishops from different countries have been invited to witness the event.
